Dr Tom McNeilly, Head of Disease Control at Moredun Research Institute, is a qualified veterinary surgeon with over 15 years’ experience in ruminant immunology. His major interest is in mucosal immunology, specifically host-pathogen interactions at mucosal surfaces, and how knowledge of these interactions can inform future disease control strategies. He is currently involved in the development of vaccines to control ruminant gastro-intestinal nematodes and zoonotic bacterial pathogens, and has a long standing interest in understanding the causes and consequences of immune variation in ruminant species.
