BDQ protects mice from both acute and chronical infections. Six-week-old female Kunming mice (n = 20) were infected intraperitoneally with 100 fresh ME49 A or 1000 Pru B tachyzoites, and were administrated with BDQ (50 mg/kg). The survival of mice was monitored for 21 days. C For the establishment of chronic infection, Kunming mice were infected (i.p.) with 500 Pru tachyzoites. After 21 days post-infection, mice (n = 5) were treated with BDQ (50 mg/kg) or vehicle for another 21 days. Then, the brain cysts were counted by FITC-labeled DBA staining. ** P value < 0.01; **** P value < 0.0001; ns: non-significant.
