M0Normal skin
M1Early stage, small (< 2 cm) focal active state. The surface is moist and ragged with mottled red-grey
M2Classical ulcerative active stage, usually large (> 2 cm across). Painful upon palpation
M3Healing stage after antibiotic treatment. The ulcerated surface is covered by dry black scab
M4Chronic stage. The hyperkeratotic lesion can have a proliferative aspect
M4.1Chronic stage with small active M1 focus
