Proportion of S. Typhimurium and S. Mbandaka isolated from co-infected birds. Layer hens were infected with an equal proportion of both S. Typhimurium DT9 (solid line, filled circle) and S. Mbandaka (hashed line, open circle). Fecal samples were collected at each time point. Ten Salmonella isolates were collected from each bird and identified using PCR. In co-infected birds, S. Mbandaka was isolated at a significantly higher proportion than S. Typhimurium (p ≤ 0.001).
