Visualization of the relative abundance of the most abundant bacterial families present in the caeca of animals in the different dietary treatment groups. Cecal content was collected from the 21-day-old chickens in the first trial 4 days after Salmonella infection and receiving a standard diet supplemented with wax or fat-protected butyrate or non-supplemented for 21 consecutive days. DNA was extracted from the cecal content, and relative abundances are shown as determined by Illumina sequencing, and visualized with the web-based tool MicrobiomeAnalyst [47].
