Relative abundance of the most abundant bacterial families. Visualization of the relative abundance of the most abundant bacterial families present in the caeca of animals in the different dietary treatment groups. Cecal content was collected from the 21-day-old chickens in the first trial 4 days after Salmonella infection and receiving a standard diet supplemented with wax or fat-protected butyrate or non-supplemented for 21 consecutive days. DNA was extracted from the cecal content, and relative abundances are shown as determined by Illumina sequencing, and visualized with the web-based tool MicrobiomeAnalyst [47].
