Bacterial survival in vivo. The bacterial loads in the blood, liver, spleen, and kidneys were counted. The data are reported per milliliter of blood, and per gram of liver, spleen, and kidney from the infected ducklings. The results showed that the bacterial loads of strain APEC94Δlsr(Cm) in all of the samples were significantly lower than those infected with wild-type strain APEC94, being decreased by 38.5-, 1639-, 316 667-, and 753-fold, respectively (p < 0.0001).
