From: Correlation of hypothetical virulence traits of two Streptococcus uberis strains with the clinical manifestation of bovine mastitis

Figure 2

Adhesion of Streptococcus uberis to bovine mammary epithelial cells BME-UV1 in vitro. Cells were incubated with strain FSL Z1-048 or strain FSL Z1-124 at 1 × 107 cfu/mL and 1 × 108, to obtain a multiplicity of infection (ratio bacteria:cells) of 10 (white columns) and 100 (striped columns), respectively. Results are expressed as concentration of bacteria recovered after 3 h of co-incubation. The values represent the mean and the standard deviation of 3 replicates, with each replicate based on the average of 3 wells. The solid grey bar represents the concentration of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium strain 12023 used as positive control. Replicate number was used as blocking factor. Statistically significant and non-significant differences between groups are marked with asterisks and NS respectively (Tukey HSD test after ANOVA, *p < 0.05).
