Two different types of EAV-positive cells can be distinguished: big cells with a big round or oval nucleus surrounded by large cytoplasmic extensions mostly CD172a⁺ (a) and rather small cells with a big round or oval nucleus surrounded by a small rim of cytoplasm mostly CD3⁺ or IgM⁺ (b-c). The viral antigens could be found in the form of small dots (a) or in the form of large masses occupying most of the cytoplasm (b-c). Scale bar represents 10 μm.
